SPS Security is providing static guarding on two sites in Cleveland Street and Dalton Street which are part of the new £150 million waste to energy facility being built in Hull.

SPS Security has been supplying site patrols, CCTV coverage and Emergency Response services at the 12-acre site for four years, on the behalf of Spencers, who owned the site before it was bought by the M&W Group.

The M&W Group were named as the main Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for the delivery of a new, advanced waste-to-energy facility in Hull. They are responsible for the design and build of the new facility, due to open in the summer of 2018, that will incorporate the latest fluidised bed gasification technology.

The new facility (Energy Works) is designed to reduce the need to for local landfill as well as relying on fossil fuel generated power to meet local energy demand. When completed Energy Works will be able to generate up to 28MW of electricity, producing enough energy from treating waste to power the equivalent of over 40,000 homes in the community each year.

Located in the industrial heart of the city, the facility will see the redevelopment of two adjacent brownfield sites. To reduce the need for vehicular transportation and impact of any congestion in the area during the construction and operation of the facility, a special high-line conveyor and access route will be created to connect the two sites.
